Take Him with You

A skit about life's transitions and the difference between "religion" and relationship.

Characters: Ron (Junior high boy who loves Jesus and cares for his sister)

Jenny (Rons sister, getting ready to go to college)

Setting:  Jennys room (stage left) Jenny is folding clothes and putting them in a suitcase.

(Knock on door)

JENNY:  Yeah?

RON:  Jenny, its me, can I come in?

JENNY:  Sure, Ron  (Ron Enters)  I'm just packing.

RON:  (Sits on the floor next to her) Sure is going to be quiet around here with you away at college.

JENNY:  (Gives Ron an older-sister-look and playful punch on the arm) And you'll have to make your own peanut butter sandwiches.  You know you can.

RON:  (smiling) Yeah, but theyre the best when you make them.

(Short silence, Jenny is still folding stuff)

RON:  So have you thought about finding a church to go to while youre at college?

JENNY:  (stops packing, then shrugs) Not really, I'll probably be too busy.  College work doesn't leave much time for religion.  (resumes packing)

RON:  It's not religion I'm talking about.

(At this point, Jenny stops packing.  She's starting to get defensive and sarcastic)

JENNY:  What, you just wanna know where I am on Sunday mornings?

RON:  (looking her in the eye) Come on, Jenny, it's all about a relationship with God through Jesus.  College is tough; He can help you through whatever comes.

JENNY:  (increasingly ticked) Who do you think you are?

RON:  I just want to know there's Someone taking care of you!

JENNY:  I dont wanna hear that!  I can take care of myself! (sighs in frustration) I think it's time you left my room.  (turns away from Ron and resumes packing)

RON:  (leaves sadly, leans against the wall outside Jennys room) Father, please take care of my sister.  Touch her in a way only You can  (head bows, freeze)

JENNY:  (looks up from her packing) God, what am I doing?

(3-second freeze)
